SAN FRANCISCOMay 5, 2014 ? Bateman Group, an integrated public relations and digital communications firm, today announced that veteran technology journalist Scott Martin has joined the company’s expanding content practice as Director of Content and Media Strategy. A professional journalist for 15 years, Martin worked at prominent news outlets including USA Today, CNET, Red Herring and American Lawyer Media’s Law.com, where he covered startups, media companies and social networks. Reporting to Mills, Martin will drive content strategy and development across all accounts and continue to raise the bar on authoritative written communications. “As a former journalist who’s covered Silicon Valley through all its peaks, bubbles and crests, Scott will provide an intelligent, authoritative editorial voice across our portfolio of technology brands,” said Bill Bourdon, partner and general manager of Bateman Group. “He joins us amid a tectonic shift happening in the PR industry, from rolodex-led media relations to content-led communications that span earned, owned and paid media. As a technology reporter for USA Today, Martin wrote critical analyses of Apple and Google as well as provided close coverage of social media companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. Prior to that, he worked as a senior editor for Red Herring, where he helped shape the editorial direction of the startup-focused news outlet.

“Jumping off the roller coaster ride of the news media business, I look forward to applying the craft of journalism with Elinor and the deep bench of talented people behind Bateman Group’s thriving business,” said Scott Martin, director of content and media strategy, Bateman Group. “In making the leap from journalism to PR, I carefully evaluated agencies. Bateman stood out to me based on its smart approach to content development. I knew I found a place where I could continue the craft of quality writing, but with a focus on helping clients achieve their own business and thought leadership pursuits.”

“He’s not only a veteran journalist who has covered Silicon Valley during all the tech booms and busts, but he’s a great writer, comes fully loaded with enterprising content ideas, and has a winning smile. He’s a fantastic addition to the team,” added Mills.
